During a normal appointment, the doctor may perform a series of visual tests to evaluate whether there are any problems with your auditory functions. If these tests do not show any irregularities, your doctor may perform an otoscopic examination to look inside the head using its light source. However, in some cases, visual tests may be ineffective because the inner ear is completely sealed off by the tonsils or adenoids. Even in these cases, sometimes the doctor has no other way to evaluate your hearing except by using an otoscope.
